2013 Leadership at the BSU

Six individual teams make up the entire BSU student Leadership Team.  Each team is led by a vice president who works directly with the president.

BSU PresidentAshleigh Davis- BSU President

I am a junior Psychology Major from Poplarville, MS. As a BSU, our goal is to “know Christ and make Him known.” We strive to know Christ in a personal, intimate way and make him known on the campus of Southern Miss, around the United States, and around the world. Being a part of the BSU has given me opportunities to serve this campus and be a part of a wonderful community here at Southern Miss, all the while teaching me so much about God’s love for His people and challenging me to be a light on this campus and around the world. I am blessed to be able to serve alongside such a wonderful group of people that make up the leadership team this year and I’m excited to see God work on the USM campus. “But they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”  -Isaiah 40:31

Elizabeth Curtis- Inreach Team

I am a junior Interior Design major from Clinton, MS. The focus for the Inreach team is to provide fun and creative opportunities for students to meet each other and strengthen or begin their walk with Christ and carry out the Great Commission on this campus, in this community and around the world. I serve on the Inreach teamto glorify my Lord and Savior by using the spiritual gifts that he has given me. By serving on this team we are given the wonderful opportunity to welcome new and returning faces here at the BSU and make lasting relationships with those people. The Inreach team strives to make others feel welcome and create a comfortable and fun atmosphere for them to gather. By planning events for the BSU, we hope to give people opportunities to make friends, fellowship and share the gospel. “If it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement. If it is giving, then give generously; if it to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.”              -Romans 12:7-8 NIV

Jacob Barry- Hospitality Team

I am a junior Biological Sciences major from Folsom, LA.  The hospitality team is responsible for creating a welcoming and warm environment at the BSU. We strive to make everyone feel welcome when they come to the BSU either through cleaning the building or greeting people as they walk in.  We set for the regular BSU events such as 6:01 and 12:01, we also help other teams set up and for their events.  As a team we strive to grow closer to each and closer to Him. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. -Colossians 3:17.

Greg See- Outreach Team

Greg See Outreach

I’m a junior in Social Work from Jacksonville, FL. As a team we understand that according to the teachings of Jesus Christ we are all called to love the lost and witness to them our God’s amazing grace. Outreach team is a group of young men and women who desire to step up and be leaders to find ways of developing intentional relationships with others and show Christ’s compassion so that He may be known throughout campus. We host outreach tables, prepare and give food to other organizations on campus, and host events that would help present opportunities to make new friends. I have realized the past few years that when you are in your most uncomfortable position in life, you have to completely depend on God. This is when usually God does most of the molding, and this is why I chose to work on this team; God has already done more than I could ever believe. Our team is reminded of the importance of “passing the baton of faith” in Judges 2:7-10 “…and there arose another generation after them who did not know the LORD or the work that he had done for Israel”. “…For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same?” -Matt: 5:46-47

Sarah Moseley- Missions Team

Missions Team Sarah Moseley

I am a junior elementary education major from Picayune, MS.  Missions team’s goal is to mobilize students to go to all nations preaching the name of Jesus and to support missions prayerfully and financially to fulfill the Great Commission. God has given us a beautiful message that must be preached–how is anyone to echo that gospel if we do not first declare it?  There are so many unreached people groups around the world, as well as neighbors and family members in our very city in need of the knowledge of Jesus–we are to be missionaries wherever we are. “For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!’”-Romans 10:12-15

Vice President- InternationalJamie Waldrop- International Team

I am a junior broadcast journalism major from Gulfport, MS. The international team strives to form, and help other students to form, real lasting friendships with international students on campus. The mission is to live life with these students so that we are able to love, serve, and make disciples among them. We have a weekly gathering with international students known as “Coffee Talk” in which we strive to build relationships, as well as regular trips we take the students on to show them more of southern culture. Over the past two years I was blessed with opportunities to serve overseas in East Asia twice, as well as in Indonesia. These experiences just opened my eyes to how desperately the world needs the gospel, and how deeply God longs for the love and praise of every single human life. The international team exists to share the truth and the love of the gospel with people who may never have heard it otherwise. “Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.” -Colossians 4:5-6,  “…do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.” -2 Timothy 4:5

Michael Vineyard- Worship Team

Michael Vineyard Worship

I am a Freshman Sports Management major from Hattiesburg, MS.  First, I’d like to say how humbled I am to be able to serve God in this position for this year.  He has been so gracious to me.  As a Worship team, our goal is to let God use us to be genuine leaders in worshiping and inviting the Spirit to dwell among us as we sing.  We want to encourage the presence of the Lord.  We play at the 6:01 bible study meeting at the BSU and at many other BSU and church/community functions.  I am excited for a 2013 year that will be led by students truly longing to know Christ more and make Him known.  “He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure.  He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God.” -Psalm 40:2-3
